I think the internet is why people have stopped using their brains.
Everything is something someone heard or read on some site that someone they know or kind of know put on on some other page.
‘Knowledge’ comes packaged as a pic with a caption - a news feed update - a source of a source of a source that seems credible.
Few people actually trace the roots to the things that they find, and are all too quick to click the share button.
In the past 6 months, I’ve had to fact check the ‘William Lynch Letter’, KFC’s lab grown ‘chicken’, Jack Black’s ‘death’, Lawsuits about the Matrix, COUNTLESS claims against Obama, Countless other political comments & claims, a plethora of comments about racism, and other asinine comments. Most of which have turned out to be untrue.
Is it really THAT hard for people to think for themselves?
This also feeds mass hysteria - the specific example I had recently was the Netflix Price Increase.
Tonight, as I was getting on the elevator after picking up my mail, a guy on the elevator notice my red netflix envelope. He asked me if I also had Netflix streaming. I told him ‘yes’. He then went on to ask me why, (didn’t let me answer) and told me that he cancelled his subscription because of the price increase. He said it’s too expensive. I replied in a very nonchalant way “It really didn’t bother me, I mean, it was only $5 more per month.” He looked at me like I’d just told him his apartment was full of gorgeous women, STD free, who wanted to have a crazy raw sex orgy with him. ”Really?!’ he said “Only five bucks?”. As he got off the elevator he told me he was going to sign back up.
DID HE NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE E-MAIL NETFLIX (The source in this case) SENT TO EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEIR SUBSCRIBERS DETAILING THE PRICE CHANGES???
*Sigh* I guess not.

Simply put people, do a little digging and get some information of your own before you start clicking on that share button, or running off to tell a friend and/or complete stranger, or blogging it to the masses.
